Large back embroidery on jackets
A full-back embroidered logo on a soft shell or Carhartt is the most visible decoration a company jacket can have. It is also the most expensive, because embroidery is priced by stitches. Battle Born Clothing quotes every back design individually.
How back embroidery is priced
Our flat matrix ($4.00 to $6.00 per piece) covers designs up to 6,000 stitches. A back design is almost always more: a 10-inch wide logo with fill can run 30,000 to 60,000 stitches. We quote it per design once we see the art and know the quantity, and the price is per piece on top of the blank. One-time digitizing for a large back file is also quoted (it is more work than a chest logo).
| Design | Approx. width | Typical stitches | Pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left-chest logo | 3-4 in | 4,000-6,000 | $4.00-$6.00 flat matrix (over 6,000: +$1.50 to $0.50 per 1,000 stitches by quantity) |
| Back arch text only | 8-10 in | 8,000-15,000 | Quoted per design |
| Back logo, outline style | 8-10 in | 15,000-30,000 | Quoted per design |
| Back logo, full fill | 10-12 in | 30,000-60,000 | Quoted per design |
Which jackets take a back design
- Best: cotton duck (Carhartt vests and coats), heavy fleece (Carhartt CT102208 Paxton), bonded soft shells (J317, EB530, EB534).
- OK with care: microfleece and midweight fleece (F218, F226). Lower density, cutaway backing.
- Avoid: thin puffers and windbreakers. Large dense embroidery on a thin shell puckers and shows needle holes. Use a DTF transfer instead.
Keeping the cost down
Outline-style back logos cost far less than filled ones because stitches are what you pay for. Text-only back arches (company name and a city) are the cheapest large-back option. If the art is a complex multi-color graphic, a DTF transfer pressed in-house is usually cheaper and looks cleaner on smooth shells.
Questions
Can I do a chest logo and a back design on the same jacket?
Yes. Each is priced separately: chest on the flat matrix, back quoted per design. Two digitizing fees apply the first time.
How long does a back design add?
Turnaround stays at 28 days from proof approval for most jobs. Very large runs with heavy back designs may need more machine time; we tell you on the quote.
